EyeSeeTea is a signatory of the Women’s Empowerment Principles
EyeSeeTea is a signatory of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), an initiative established by UN Women and the UN Global Compact to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace and community.
The WEPs are a set of seven principles offering guidance to businesses on how to take concrete, accountable steps toward gender equality. They cover leadership commitment, fair treatment at work, employee health and wellbeing, education and career development, supply chain practices, community advocacy, and transparent reporting on progress. Signing them is a public commitment by company leadership to act on gender equality as a shared responsibility, with reporting mechanisms to keep that commitment visible over time.
Why this matters to us
At EyeSeeTea, our commitment to equality and equity is something we want to build deliberately, step by step. Signing the WEPs is part of a broader direction we have been moving in: we are also members of the HeForShe movement of UN Women, which recognises that gender equality requires the active, visible involvement of everyone, regardless of gender.
These commitments reflect something we already believe internally: that a workplace where people are treated with fairness and dignity is the only kind of workplace worth building. And that a company whose mission is to contribute to positive global change has a particular responsibility to embody that same standard internally.
The WEPs framework gives us a structure and a community to do that with more rigour. The seven principles align closely with practices we already have in place, including our transparent salary bands, flexible working conditions, performance frameworks designed to reduce bias, and our ongoing investment in individual development. Being part of the WEPs means committing to measure and report on that progress, not just describe it.
What the seven principles cover
The Women’s Empowerment Principles guide businesses across seven areas:
1. High-level corporate leadership — Gender equality championed at the top, embedded in strategy and values.
2. Equal treatment at work — Fair pay, non-discrimination, and respectful conditions for all employees.
3. Employee health, wellbeing and safety — Safe, supportive working environments that consider the specific needs of women.
4. Education and training for career advancement — Equal access to learning, mentoring and development opportunities.
5. Enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices — Promoting gender equality beyond the company’s own walls, through partners and suppliers.
6. Community initiatives and advocacy — Active engagement in advancing gender equality in the wider community.
7. Measurement and reporting — Transparency on goals, progress and outcomes.
A step, not a destination
We are under no illusion that signing a set of principles is the same as having achieved what they describe. Gender equality in the workplace is work, and it is ongoing. What signing the WEPs represents for EyeSeeTea is a public commitment to keep doing that work, to measure it, and to be accountable for the results.
