2025 DHIS2 Annual Conference – Highlights from EyeSeeTea

The annual DHIS2 conference (DAC2025) was an amazing experience once again. This year, Nacho Foche, co-founder of EyeSeeTea, and Adrian Quintana, Lead Project Manager were the team members attending the event. We presented a poster, attended several sessions from our partners, were invited to the DHIS2 Core Contributing Partners meeting and brought home an award! And, as always, best of all, we had the opportunity to learn from the community and meet amazing people!

The annual DHIS2 conference is the flagship event of the DHIS2 community. Nearly 300 people gathered this year, eager to reconnect and learn about this exceptional open-source software. One of the conference’s highlights was the confirmation of what we already knew: DHIS2 is a highly versatile system with applications far beyond health data management. It is increasingly being used for climate data, an important and impactful topic.

Other highlights included DHIS2 product manager Marta Vila presenting the latest DHIS2 updates and Austin McGee discussing DHIS2 extensibility. We were also thrilled to discuss the possibility of a partnership with OpenFn, a powerful, open-source platform that can integrate different technologies. And there is also another very exciting potential partnership. Despite these challenging times, the DHIS2 core team is developing long-term sustainability strategies and one of them is implementing a Core Contributing Partners program. It would be open to organizations that can make financial or in-kind contributions. Because of our contributions to the DHIS2 core and our DHIS2 Suite generic apps, we have been invited to participate in the program. We look forward to learning more and contributing to the effort to help make DHIS2 sustainable during these difficult conditions.

WHO's NHWA Data Quality App

We were so excited to share our work on the NHWA Data Quality App during DAC2025! It is an app developed in collaboration with the WHO Health Workforce Department.

As we all know, high-quality, validated health data is crucial for policy decisions and resource planning in global health. Yet, inconsistencies and fragmented validation workflows usually hinder ability to ensure data quality. Our solution is an open-source DHIS2-based tool that automates data quality validation, reducing workload, improving reliability, and enabling cross-country collaboration. “The NHWA Data Quality App transformed our data review from a cumbersome task to a structured, collaborative process.”

Simprints & UX/UI Design in Global Organisations

On Wednesday we attended the ‘User Research for UX/UI Design in Global Organisations: Relevance, Challenges and Good Practices’ session. There were several interesting talks, and we highlight the one by Agata Kaczmarek, Senior Solutions Manager at Simprints.

She showed some of the prototypes we have designed for them while working on an app to track malaria vaccination. By integrating Simprints and EyeSeeTea applications, we are strengthening the data tracking systems and optimising the rollout of the malaria vaccine using state-of-the-art mobile biometrics technology. MSF & Setting up DHIS2 in Gaza

On the conference we could attend to MSF’s presentation of their impactful work in Gaza using DHIS2 to make data available. The poster was authored by Beatriz Bernabé, Allan Lusui & Alejandro Casado.

Our relationship with MSF spans more than a decade. We’ve developed numerous tools, apps, and scripts to ensure their DHIS2 instances remain solid and up to date. We’ve provided robust, tailored DHIS2 solutions to support their critical humanitarian missions. More on our blog post

DHIS2 Response Applications

On the last day of the conference, Reuben Mashekwa Kaponde and Steven Nonde from the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) presented ‘The Automated Surveillance Alert Threshold Programme’

This programme is part of the efforts of the ZNPHI to maximize the efficiency of their response to outbreaks. We have been working with them and Resolve To Save Lives on ZEBRA, Zambia’s Emergency Bridge for Response Application.

ZEBRA is an online DHIS2 platform built to make this easier, providing visibility into outbreaks across the country and allowing for faster, better responses. As we all know, time is of the essence in an infectious disease outbreak. Public health agencies need to mobilise quickly, bringing together complex teams of technical experts to stop the disease in its tracks. We are very proud to have developed a tool to contribute to this effort.

Bringing home another DHIS2 award

For the second year in a row, we won “the most active on social media” DHIS2 award. We love sharing all the great things happening with the amazing community.

A huge thank you to the DHIS2 team for organizing such an impactful event! Almost 300 hundred people met at Oslo to share and learn and many more were attending DAC2025 online. Please reach out if you’d like to collaborate or learn more about our work!
